Spring sessions are some of my favorites—the light is soft, the colors are fresh, and everything feels a little more alive. What you wear plays a huge role in how your images feel, so a little planning goes a long way. If you’re getting ready for spring photos, here’s how to choose outfits that feel effortless, timeless, and beautifully you.
Spring photographs best with lighter, airy tones. Think creams, soft whites, warm tans, sage green, dusty blue, blush, or muted pastels. These colors reflect light beautifully and keep the focus on connection rather than clothing. Neutrals also ensure your images won’t feel dated years from now.

Spring is a great time to incorporate color, just keep it subtle. Instead of bold neons or high-contrast patterns, opt for soft florals, delicate stripes, or muted tones layered into one or two outfits. A dress with a small floral print or a linen shirt in a soft blue can add interest without overpowering the image.

Texture adds depth and dimension to photos. Linen, gauze, cotton, knits, eyelet, and light denim photograph beautifully in spring light. Layers—like a cardigan, denim jacket, or lightweight sweater—add visual interest and give you flexibility if the weather shifts.
Instead of everyone wearing the same color, choose a cohesive palette and mix tones within it. Start with one outfit you love (often mom’s) and build the rest of the family around it. Aim for balance: a mix of light and medium tones, solids with subtle patterns, and varied textures.

Neutral shoes photograph best—think tan, brown, cream, or soft blush. Avoid athletic sneakers or shoes with logos if possible. For accessories, less is more. A simple necklace, soft hair bow, or delicate bracelet adds polish without distraction.
Spring sessions often take place in fields, gardens, or open spaces. Flowy dresses, relaxed silhouettes, and natural fabrics complement these environments beautifully. Structured or overly formal outfits can feel out of place in natural settings.

The best photos happen when you feel comfortable. Choose pieces you can move, sit, walk, and cuddle in easily—especially for families with little ones. When you’re comfortable, your photos will feel natural and connected.
Spring is all about light, softness, and ease—and your outfits should reflect that. If you’re ever unsure, I’m always happy to help style your session so everything feels cohesive and effortless. The goal is simple: timeless images that feel just as beautiful years from now as they do today.
